Hi, my name is Marina Scateni

I am a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher, an Holistic Therapist specialised in Shiatsu and the founder of the Water Healing Therapy, Onda Marina Method. I am also a Healing Diets Coach with a passionate mission to support those willing to transform their lives into healthier, more harmonious ones by adopting a constant helpful daily routine of inner and physical practices, living in the present moment and in alignment with nature.

A few years ago I founded El Tao Azul in Nerja, a joyful and peaceful space, nestled along the beautiful coastline of Nerja, inspired by the ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching and the transformative power of water.

A personal journey of healing and transformation

Water has always been a constant source of solace and strength throughout my all life. As a former professional swimmer, the water served as my refuge during challenging times, instilling in me a sense of acceptance, deep understanding, and trust. Today, I still turn to the embrace of the ocean whenever my emotions feel overwhelming or I need to restore my inner balance.

My travels across the globe—from Australia and Canada to France, Jordan, Cape Verde, and Egypt—have deeply enriched my perspective and cultural understanding. While working in international cooperation in Egypt, I met Simona Galbiati, a radiant soul who offered patient, unconditional support during the early stages of my spiritual journey. It was through her that I discovered Reiki, marking my first profound encounter with the subtle energy that flows within us all.

After a year of dedicated Reiki practice, I realised my career in international cooperation was no longer aligned with who I was becoming. Driven by a desire for meaningful impact, I relocated to the Red Sea coast in Sharm el-Sheikh. Supporting sea turtle conservation and developing water wells for Bedouin communities in the Sinai desert allowed me to reconnect with my true calling. Amidst the endless blue, I felt as though I had finally returned home.

The origin of Onda Marina Method

It was during this time in Egypt that the Onda Marina Method began to take shape. A woman living with Parkinson's reached out to me for swimming lessons, and together in the water, I witnessed a profound experience of healing that went far beyond physical movement. That powerful encounter revealed my true calling: accompanying others along their liberation journeys through the transformative and holding power of water.

The following years were marked by deeper exploration.

I began practicing yoga alongside the world champion freediver Davide Carrera, embracing a freer way of living attuned to the rhythm of nature. Together, we sailed the Mediterranean aboard a modest trimaran, embarking on the greatest journey of all: becoming parents to our son, Neró, whose name honors water itself. I started practicing yoga with the freediver Davide Carrera and began to live a freer life., to the rhythm of nature. Aboard a simple sailing trimaran, we traveled the Mediterranean and I became a mother from our son Nero (which means "water" in Greek!).

During this immersive chapter, I met Clara Castellotti, a wise holistic therapist who reintroduced me to Shiatsu. Years earlier, Shiatsu had helped me regain full mobility in my back after spending months in a cast during my youth. Deeply inspired by its profound healing potential, I felt called to honor its healing legacy and train to become a certified Shiatsu therapist myself.

Overcoming challenges and finding strength

Life also brought its share of hardships. During a painful separation from my son’s father, I turned toward healing, finding grounding in my studies of Conscious Nutrition and Natural Medicine. I was in Sardinia at that time, where I began teaching yoga. There at a local eco-store, I serendipitously discovered a book by buddist Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. His words brought me immediate comfort, clarity, and peace—opening the door to mindfulness in my life. This awakening inspired me to journey to Plum Village, his monastery in France. The monks welcomed me warmly, teaching me to cultivate presence, practice self-compassion, and hold life’s difficulties with acceptance. Today, I view every challenge as an opportunity to fall and rise—a reminder that this ongoing journey is, itself, the greatest school of life. Infinite gratitude to Thay, my master.

My journey then led my son, Neró, and me to Cape Verde. Two years later, I embarked on a transformative pilgrimage to India, immersing myself in the ancient roots of yoga and deepening my practice both as a teacher and a student.

Settling in Nerja and the Foundation of El Tao Azul

My time in India eventually led me to Nerja, a captivating coastal town in Málaga, Spain. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, I established my first yoga studio—originally named Los Ángeles as a tribute to the spiritual guidance of my father. Here, within this coastal sanctuary, I accompany others transform their lives into healthier, more harmonious ways of being.

In Nerja, my quest for knowledge continued, leading me to delve deeper into the wisdom of the Tao Te Ching. The teachings resonated profoundly, urging me to seek for further guidance.

One day, an extract from Ana Moves' "The Book of Yin" unexpectedly appeared on my Facebook feed, sparking a deep connection. Drawn to Ana's profound writing and natural lifestyle, I knew I had to meet her. This transformative journey took me to Asturias, where I had the privilege of learning from this inspiring Taoist master.

Inspired by the transformative power of water and the wisdom of the Tao Te Ching, I renamed my studio El Tao Azul, symbolizing the essence of flexibility and inner strength. El Tao Azul offers a collaborative space for like-minded individuals who wish to accompany others on their journeys towards inner peace.
